LOBELIA

Lobelia has been used for centuries as an herbal remedy. It was originally used by Native Americans. Since Lobelia contains lobeline, which is chemically similar to nicotine, it was used as a stop-smoking aid. However this has not been proven. It is also being studied for use in treating drug addiction.

Lobelia does have antidepressant and sedative properties. It is used to relax muscles and nerves. It has also been used to treat anxiety, epilepsy, kidney stones, insomnia, menstrual cramps, muscle spasms, spastic colon, and tetanus.

Lobelia has also been used in treating croup, asthma, earache, lock jaw and ringworm.

CAUTION: Sometimes slows down body function. Lobelia should not be used by diabetics.
