Herbal Information For You
Peanut allergy is a serious and
potentially deadly problem. An allergic reaction to nuts can progress
rapidly to anaphylaxis. Peanut allergy is responsible for more deaths than
any other type of allergy.
Children are the most affected and the
number of children affected has increased dramatically in recent years.
Peanut allergy symptoms can include a tingling feeling in the lips or
mouth, a rash, swelling on the body, swelling in the throat (can cause
obstruction of breathing), vomiting, cramping, diarrhea and shock from
extreme low blood pressure. This is compounded greatly if there is a
history of asthma.
If a person is allergic to one kind of
nut they may also be allergic to other kinds and exhibit tree nut allergy
symptoms. This would include almonds, peanuts, pecan, brazil, cashew,
hazel, pistachio, pine and walnuts. Additionally sesame seed, coconut, poppy
seed and sunflower seed are some others that may trigger an allergy. Blood
and skin tests can show allergies to several kinds of nuts.
